  • Yay!  Hurricane Norbert is heading our way!  Maybe we get to break our record Rio depths again.  And shut down half of the park.

In better news, I just had ten whole minutes of a break.  Given that I had 55 visitors in the first two hours, this is most welcome.

In the best news, Miguel has returned from ranching.

  • This past week the Rio set record depths.  It has had more water in it before, but due to constriction of the channel, it was forced to go deeper this time, making all sorts of mud and mayhem.  Fun times.

Usual river depths are 3-4 feet.  This flood crested at 28.  The river was over a mile wide in some flood plains, taking out trees, power lines and towns on both sides of the river.  Thankfully it is starting to recede.

  • Life has been a bit busy.  With school and work aside, the Rio has been at a record flood stage, putting parts of the park 20' underwater.

    But a catch-up post:

Hanging out with actual water in the park!  (Before it started to cause problems)

  • Well, I'm back in TX after a whirlwind trip to Michigan.  Definitely not enough time to visit some of my favorite people.  But I got to show Miguel where I came from, and got to introduce friends and family to this favorite addition to my life.

The wedding, of course, was gorgeous.  Although I had to bite my cheek because of the frogs, roosters, goats and horses in the background.  But Bethany was beautiful and couldn't have picked a better day.

And now the craziness of reality.  Tomorrow I'm a pseudo-permanent career-conditional NPS Ranger.  Wednesday I become a freshman Master's student.  And in the next few weeks I need to hire two people, and make decisions about health insurance, life insurance, retirement, and savings accounts.  How did I get so old?

  • Life was a little sad because Miguel is in OK and Billie is in CO, and I've watched all the movies I own ... twice.

But life is a little better because I SAW A MOUNTAIN LION LAST NIGHT!  It was strolling across the road as I was driving home from my evening program.  It stopped to stare at me, then moved on.  It was so incredibly beautiful.  Too bad they don't make good pets.
